SWACHCHATA HI SEVA

Showing solidarity with the Jan Andolan ‘Swachchata Hi Sewa’ Sainik School Nagrota community came together to initiate the fortnight long cleanliness campaign commemorating the birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. The aim of this Swachchata drive is to realise the vision of clean India by setting an example to the society that Cleanliness is everyone’s business. Officers, Academic, Administrative, NCC, PTIs, Ground duty staff and families along with the cadets assembled in front of Cadets’ Mess at the dawn of the day and carried out cleaning up of drainage and adjoining areas while cadets joined hands and made sure that their hostel

surroundings were clean and neat. Hand gloves, shovels were made available in sufficient numbers to meet the requirement for the Swachchata drive with proper arrangements for disposal of collected waste. It may be noted that Sainik School Nagrota has adopted an effective Garbage segregation and disposal mechanism in collaboration with the local civic body also. Under this arrangement, an electric vehicle comes around to pick up domestic waste for safe disposal and recycling process on a nominal payment from the resident community. Frequent drives have been conducted for ensuring waste segregation at source and recycling of organic waste to create home-made compost. This arrangement has effectively made the campus litter free and besides putting a permanent end to overflowing garbage bins and burning of wastes in the vicinity.
